Privacy Policy.
Last updated: November 5, 2026
In short
- We collect only what we need to pick a good idea for your kids and email it to you.
- For kids: first names or nicknames, birthdays, and optional son/daughter and interests. No last names, no photos, no kids' accounts.
- Kids never use the service. Only you, the adult account holder, do.
- We don't sell your information. Our public web pages may use ad pixels (like Meta's) to measure our ads; you can opt out, and your kids' information never goes to advertisers.
- One cookie keeps you signed in. Our visit counter uses no cookies and stores no personal data.
- Ask us to delete your account and your kids' info anytime, and we'll do it within 30 days.
1. Who we are
The Doing Dad (thedoingdad.com) is run by The Doing Dad LLC, a Utah limited liability company ("we," "us"). This policy explains what we collect, why, who helps us handle it, and the choices you have. It works alongside our Terms of Service.
2. What we collect
You give us all of this yourself when you sign up, set up your family, or use the emails.
- Your email
- To create your account, send sign-in links, and send your daily idea.
- Your kids' first names or nicknames
- So the email can say who the idea is for. First names or nicknames only.
- Your kids' birthdays
- So ideas fit their ages and grow up with them.
- Son or daughter, and interests (optional)
- To pick ideas they're more likely to enjoy.
- Days you have the kids
- So ideas arrive only on those days (for example, with shared custody or work travel).
- ZIP code
- To look up the local weather forecast, so we don't send a backyard idea on a stormy day.
- Time zone and delivery hour
- So the email arrives when you asked.
- Important dates you add
- Dates like Mom's birthday, your anniversary, or holidays you choose, so we can suggest ideas around them.
- "We did it" / "Not for us" taps, and notes
- To learn what your family likes and to keep a record of what you did. Notes are optional; you might write what the kids said.
- Signup source
- The link tag you arrived from (utm or src), so we know which places bring people to us.
- Payment status
- Stripe handles payments. We receive confirmation of your plan and payments, but we never see your full card number.
3. What we don't collect
- Last names
- Photos
- Accounts for kids, or anything directly from kids
Please keep notes free of last names, addresses, and other sensitive details.
4. Kids and COPPA
The Doing Dad is a service for adults. Kids never use it and can't have accounts. We don't knowingly collect personal information directly from children, and our service isn't directed to children.
As a parent, you choose to give us limited information about your own kids (first names or nicknames, birthdays, and optional son/daughter and interests) so we can pick ideas that fit them. We use it only to run the service for you. You can remove a kid, or change any of their details, anytime from your family settings, or by emailing hello@thedoingdad.com.
If you believe a child has given us information directly, email us and we'll delete it.
5. How we use it
- To run the service: pick each day's idea and email it to you.
- To manage your account, trial, and billing, and to send sign-in links and receipts.
- To improve which ideas we pick, using your taps and notes.
- To understand, in aggregate, which signup sources work.
- To keep the service secure and to meet legal obligations.
We pick ideas from a library that people write and review. We don't use AI to generate ideas on the fly from your information.
6. Who helps us run it
We use a small number of service providers. They handle data for us, only to provide their service.
- Netlify
- Hosts our website and app.
- Neon
- Our database (Postgres), stored in the United States.
- Resend
- Delivers our emails. Their email delivery logs are kept about 30 days.
- Stripe
- Processes payments. Stripe handles your card details; we never see your full card number.
- Zippopotam.us
- Turns your ZIP code into approximate coordinates. We send it the ZIP code only.
- US National Weather Service
- Provides forecasts for that approximate location.
We may also share information if the law requires it, to protect someone's safety, or as part of a sale or merger of the business, in which case this policy would still apply to your information.
7. Cookies and tracking
- One session cookie keeps you signed in. It's needed for the service to work.
- Visit counting on our site is cookie-free and stores no personal data.
- Advertising pixels on public pages. Our public pages (like the home page and signup) may use pixels or cookies from ad platforms such as Meta and Google to measure whether our ads work and to show our ads to people likely to be interested. These partners may collect device and browsing information on those pages. Pixels are never used on account pages (setup, idea pages, settings) or in our emails.
- Your choices. You can opt out with the "Do not sell or share my info" link at the bottom of our pages, and we honor the Global Privacy Control signal from your browser.
8. Selling and ad sharing
We don't sell your personal information for money. When ad pixels run on our public pages, some state laws (like California's) may treat that as "sharing" for targeted advertising. We never share your kids' information, your notes, or your important dates with advertisers. If we match ad conversions, we send only your email in hashed (scrambled) form. Opt out anytime with "Do not sell or share my info," or by turning on Global Privacy Control in your browser.
9. How long we keep it
- We keep your information while your account is active.
- When you ask us to delete your account, we delete it and your kids' information within 30 days.
- Email delivery logs at our email provider are kept about 30 days.
- We may need to keep limited payment records longer where the law requires it (for example, tax records).
10. Keeping it safe
We use reasonable measures to protect your information, like encrypted connections and limited access. No system is perfectly secure, so we can't promise absolute security. If a breach affects your information, we'll tell you as the law requires.
11. Your privacy rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us to:
- Access the personal information we have about you and your kids.
- Correct anything that's wrong. You can also edit most of it yourself in your settings.
- Delete your account and your kids' information.
Several US states give residents these rights by law. To make a request, email hello@thedoingdad.com from the address on your account, so we can confirm it's you. We'll respond within the time the law allows. We won't treat you differently for using your rights. If we turn down a request, you can reply to ask us to reconsider.
12. California notice
If you live in California, here's a summary of what California law asks us to tell you.
- Categories we collect: identifiers (your email); personal characteristics of your kids that you choose to share (first name or nickname, birthday, optional son/daughter); approximate location (ZIP code and time zone); commercial information (plan and payment status, not card numbers); and preferences and notes you give us (interests, custody days, important dates, taps, notes, signup source).
- Where it comes from: you.
- Why: the purposes in section 5.
- Who receives it: the service providers in section 6, for business purposes only.
- Selling or sharing: we don't sell personal information for money. Ad pixels on our public pages may count as "sharing" identifiers and internet activity with advertising partners; opt out with "Do not sell or share my info" or Global Privacy Control. We never sell or share information about anyone under 16, including kids' information parents give us.
- How long: see section 9.
- Your rights: to know, access, correct, and delete, and not to be discriminated against for using them. You may use an authorized agent. Make requests as described in section 11.
13. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If a change is significant, we'll email you before it takes effect.
